Does the edited text keep the original font?

In most cases yes, exactly — the text is rewritten inside the PDF's own content stream, so the document keeps drawing it with its own font at its own size. Where a run can't be rewritten that way, the text is repainted using the file's embedded font, or the closest standard font if that font lacks the characters you typed. The save report tells you which of these happened for every edit.

Is the old text really removed, or just covered up?

When a run is rewritten in place the original string is genuinely gone from the file. When it can only be repainted, the old text is covered visually but still exists inside the PDF and can be recovered by copy-paste or text extraction — so the tool warns you explicitly, and you should not rely on it to hide confidential values.

Why can't it always use the original font?

PDFs normally embed a subset of a font: only the glyphs the document already used. If the file never contained a capital Z, there is no Z in the embedded font to draw. That is a property of the PDF format, not of this tool — it is the same reason paid editors ship their own font libraries to substitute from.

What does redaction actually do here?

It removes the text from the PDF's content stream and draws an opaque bar over where it sat, so the words are gone from the file rather than merely hidden. If a run cannot be rewritten, the bar is still drawn but the text remains recoverable — and the tool says so plainly, because a redaction you cannot trust is worse than none.

Can I add new text, and what font does it use?

Yes — switch to Add text and click anywhere on the page. New text has no original to match, so you pick from three font families (Sans/Helvetica, Serif/Times, or Mono/Courier) in the style bar, plus size, colour, bold and italic.

Can I edit a scanned PDF?

Yes, after running OCR. A scanned page is just an image, so the tool offers to read the words and add a text layer positioned over them — the page still looks exactly as scanned. Pick the document's language first (English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, or Vietnamese) so OCR actually reads the right alphabet rather than guessing at English — Polish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese fetch a small Unicode font the first time you use one of them, since their alphabets need more than the tool's default font can draw. You can then edit those lines, and because the scan underneath still shows the old words, edits are painted over that spot while the recognised text is removed so the file's text layer stays consistent with what you see.

What else can it do besides text?

Highlight text like a marker pen, draw freehand or a straight line/arrow, add rectangles (outline or filled), place a margin note, insert an image, sign by drawing a signature, rotate, insert or duplicate a page, extract a single page as its own file, delete pages, and drag pages into a new order. Every change is undoable and nothing is written until you save.

Can I move, resize, or delete something after I've placed it?

Yes — switch to Edit text and click any shape, line, image, form field, or note you've already placed to select it (a coloured outline shows what's selected). Shift+click to add more objects to the selection, then drag any one of them to move the whole group together, Ctrl+D to duplicate all of them, or Delete/Backspace to remove all of them — each as a single undo step, not one per object. Drag a single object's corner handle to resize it (hold Shift to keep a rectangle or image's proportions), drag either end of a line/arrow to reshape it independently, or nudge it with the arrow keys (Shift for a bigger step) — those three only apply one at a time, since a corner or endpoint drag has no single meaning across several differently-shaped objects at once. None of this touches anything else on the page — deleting one stray rectangle doesn't undo the three edits you made after it, the way pressing Undo repeatedly would.

Are there keyboard shortcuts?

The main ones: Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z) to undo, Ctrl+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z to redo, Ctrl+D to duplicate whatever's selected, Delete/Backspace to remove it, the arrow keys to nudge it, and Escape to cancel whatever you're placing and drop back to Edit text. They're skipped while you're typing in a text box, so they never fight with the browser's own editing shortcuts there.

Can I insert a blank page?

Yes — "Insert page" on any page adds a new blank page right after it, sized to match. It behaves exactly like a real page for everything else: rotate it, delete it, drag it anywhere in the document, or add text, images, highlights, drawings and form fields on it.

Can I duplicate a page?

Yes — "Duplicate" copies a page's current content, including any edits already made to it, right after itself. One thing worth knowing: the copy and the original share that content until you save, so an edit you make to the source page afterwards shows up on both — they aren't independent until the file is written.

Can I download just one page instead of the whole file?

Accepted Answer

Yes — "Extract" on any page downloads that single page as its own PDF, reflecting whatever edits you've made so far (not just the original). It runs the same save process as the main Save button behind the scenes, so the extracted page is real, selectable text — not a flattened image.

How does the highlight tool work?

Drag roughly across a line of text and it snaps to that line's actual height automatically — you don't need to trace a precise box by hand, the same way a real highlighter or Adobe Acrobat's highlight tool behaves. Pick from four colours (yellow, green, pink, blue). It's drawn with a multiply blend so the text underneath stays fully readable, and is baked into the PDF itself when you save.

Can I search for text in the document?

Yes — the search icon in the toolbar opens a find bar. It searches every page's current text (including your own edits), jumps to and highlights each match, and Next/Previous step through all of them.

How do sticky notes/comments work?

Pick Note, click where you want it, and type. Two things get saved: a small coloured icon plus its text drawn directly on the page — always visible in any PDF viewer, including on a printout, which annotations generally aren't — and a real, native PDF comment annotation at the same spot, so a reader using Acrobat, Preview, or Chrome's built-in viewer can also click the icon for the standard collapsible comment popup. In the live editor, hover the icon to read the note before saving.

Can I draw an arrow, not just a line?

Yes — the Line tool has an Arrowhead toggle (on by default). Turn it off for a plain straight line.

Can I change the font size, colour, or weight of text I edit?

Yes — a style bar appears above the page whenever you're editing a line or placing new text, with size, colour, bold and italic controls. Touching any of them means that edit is repainted with the chosen style instead of rewritten in the original font, since a content-stream rewrite can only change the string, not how it's drawn — the save report says which happened for each edit.

What happens if my replacement text is longer than the original?

If it would spill noticeably past the original text's width, its size is automatically reduced to fit — down to a floor of 60% of the original size — and the save report tells you when that happened. This isn't reflow, so surrounding content still doesn't move; it just keeps a longer replacement from visibly overlapping whatever sits next to it.

Can I add fillable form fields?

Yes — four kinds. Form field drags out a fillable text box, Checkbox places a checkbox, Dropdown drags out a choice field (Option 1/2/3 by default), and Radio places mutually-exclusive radio buttons — click it repeatedly to add more options to the same group; picking Radio again afterward starts a fresh group. All four are genuine PDF form fields, not drawn boxes, so any PDF reader can fill them in afterwards.

Is the document fingerprint a legally-binding signature?

No, and it doesn't claim to be. It's a SHA-256 checksum of the file, shown to you so you can save it somewhere alongside the file (an email, a note) at the moment you sign or finalize it. Anyone can later recompute a checksum of that file and compare it to confirm nothing has changed — but there's no identity verification, no trusted third-party timestamp, and no audit trail, which is what an actual legally-binding e-signature service provides through server-side infrastructure this tool deliberately doesn't have.

Does the rest of the page reflow when I change text length?

Accepted Answer

No. A PDF stores glyphs at fixed positions with no concept of lines or paragraphs, so surrounding text does not move. Longer replacements are drawn from the same starting point, so keep an eye on the width of what you type.

Is my document uploaded anywhere?

Accepted Answer

No. The PDF is parsed, rendered and rewritten entirely inside your browser, which matters for contracts, invoices and anything else confidential.
